Hall Russell United under 18 development squad
‘Research concludes there are an estimated 395,000 people in the UK who may have an undiagnosed heart condition which could trigger sudden cardiac death - 130,000 of those people are under the age of 35. Exercise is associated with a 10 fold increase in the incidence of heart problems – until a heart scan is carried out, heart conditions can remain dormant and undiagnosed. Every week in the UK, an estimated eight (8) apparently healthy young people die from undiagnosed heart condition. Usually, that young person will have died during normal activity such as eating, drinking, taking exercise or in their sleep – many of these deaths are preventable. Athletes regularly push themselves to their limits; because of this their hearts undergo a great deal of strain. The incidence of sudden death is therefore greater in the athletic population.
With this in mind, Hall Russell United are delighted to announce the purchase of a lifesaving Defibrillator which will accompany our under 18 development squad at all training sessions and matches. This vital machine completes our First Aid equipment and ensures we can now respond to any medical emergency which may arise.
In this regard the Club would like to thank the ‘David and June Gordon Memorial Trust’, in particular, for their support and funding which has allowed us to complete this very important purchase which adds to our safeguarding measures for our young people’
