Matthew McVey writes:

"I started my organ education aged 14 with our parish priest who had formally been an organ builder. At the time, I had ambitions to go and study medicine at university with the view to becoming a GP but when I was 15 I was appointed as Organist to St Ninian’s Parish Church in Nairn linked with Auldearn Parish and so spent my Sundays in church playing. I loved the experience and soon came to the decision that this is what I wanted to do full time.

I started studying at the University of Aberdeen in 2019 and have thoroughly enjoyed it thus far (despite Covid and its hinderances). I also took the post of Organist at St Mary’s Episcopal Church when I started Uni; and since August of last year have been playing at the 8am mass at St Mary’s RC Cathedral.

Aside from music, I love nothing more than being out in the countryside walking and taking in the beautiful scenery of Aberdeenshire and further afield. Nothing beats a good book of an evening either!"
